The Pain Sucks Blog has been a progressive inspiration geared toward the empowerment of chronic pain patients. Over several years of treating chronic pain patients, I have noticed a pattern of resentment and defeat. The most disturbing thing that I have noticed about this pattern, is that when patients get stuck in it, they inevitably get worse. Patients who I have seen break free of this pattern and decide to take their lives back, have unanimously gotten better. I try in my practice to inspire people to take ownership in getting themselves back to a livable way of life. However, I can’t help but feel that I need to reach a wider audience. My wish is that this blog will provide the tools needed for chronic pain patients to reprogram their thinking about chronic pain conditions. Chronic pain does not mean that you are sentenced to a life of misery and disability. In fact, just restructuring your thoughts can liberate you to start filling your life again with purpose and passion. Do not give up the things that bring you happiness and meaning! Without them, life surely is bleak. You may always have some level of pain, and you may need to make accommodations like pacing yourself, but that does not mean you should give up the things you love! I have had headaches, neck pain and low back pain for over 24 years, so I have lived both sides of this coin. I hope that my knowledge of psychology and medicine, as well as my own personal experiences can help to guide those who suffer to a more empowered way of life.
